Police has submitted a chargesheet against 13 people including the chairman and managing director of Tazreen Fashion Ltd in Dhaka on Sunday for the devastating fire in the garment factory that claimed over 100 lives in Nov 2012. Investigation officer, CID Inspector AKM Mohsin Uz Zaman Khan submitted the chargesheet to Dhaka's senior judicial magistrate Wasim Sheikh.
The accused have been charged for man slaughter and death caused by negligence under Section 304 and 304 (a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The charge of death due to negligence (Under article 304a) was included in the case later along with that of sabotage by arson. Workers of the gutted factory said that the exit points were locked and that they have not been allowed to escape to safety when the fire broke out.
Evidence of not maintaining the building code for the factory has also been found. The victims and their family are upset because prime accused Delwar has been not arrested more than a year after the fire. Allegations have surfaced that he is being shielded. Delwar, his wife and chairman of Tazreen Fashions Mahmuda Akter are absconding.
