CMAI Ties Up With Three Regional Associations

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has signed MoUs with three regional associations, to broaden its reach and sphere of service to the Indian garment industry. CMAI is also creating a National Co-ordination Committee of Associations of Domestic Garment Industry, in which these three associations will be represented, so that a cohesive, comprehensive, and united voice of the Industry can be created. The associations who have tied up with CMAI are: Garment Exporters Association of Rajasthan (GEAR) Although initially formed to cater to the growing body of exporters of Rajasthan, particularly in Jaipur, GEAR’s membership has increasingly turned to the domestic market in addition to their traditional exports. Today close to 80% of their members operate in the domestic sector directly or indirectly. They are a progressive, forward looking, and service-oriented association with ambitious plans for the future, and are expected to add tremendous value to CMAI members for any assistance required in Rajasthan. GEAR is a 42 years old association and currently has over 275 members. West Bengal Hosiery Association (WBHA)  WBHA members are primarily involved in manufacture of hosiery underwear garments, lingerie, and kidswear, catering largely to the domestic market. WBHA is a 50 years old association, with 350 members, and is one of the most important voices for the Indian  hosiery industry. Apparel Manufacturers Society of Indore (AMSI) Indore is an important kidswear manufacturing centre. Though only six years old, AMSI’s young leadership has been very active in development of Indore’s garment industry, and has aggressive plans for improving the technology, productivity, and progress of its member manufacturers. Currently they have close to 170 members, in both export and domestic sectors. Rakesh Biyani, President, CMAI, welcomed this development and hoped that this will lead to a substantial growth in the outreach of CMAI in these regions, and at the same time promote the activities of these associations all across India, through the medium of CMAI’s offices and membership spread across India.
