There are glad tidings for Surat, India’s Manchester with top state officials from Gujarat spelling out their plan to set up a textile hub at Bardoli taluka. The hub will comprise a host of micro, small and medium enterprises with investments flowing in from different quarters.
The proposal that has come up according to the officials of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation envisages the setting up of 207 textile weaving units. The location for this proposed project is the emerging Badroli-II Industrial Estate situated in Miyawadi village. At present, it is India’s biggest man-made fabric manufacturing hub located at a distance of 48 km from Surat.
The officials disclosed that for the most part the industrial units that are proposed to be set up will be for weaving. More than 250 plots have been allotted for this purpose with sizes ranging from 250 square metres to 1,000 square metres.
Setting up the proposed weaving units will involve the installation of power looms, jacquard-fitted looms, and rapier looms. The pouring in of investments are expected to come easy as there are existing units in Surat that want to expand their space and scale of operations to enlarge their businesses.
The scale of investments is expected to cross the INR 200 crore mark with an aggregate capacity of producing 2 lakh metres of fabric on a daily basis, revealed state officials.
