Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council, set up by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India working for the development of powerloom sector of India, organized an interaction meet between Chairman and his team from PDEXCIL with powerloom weavers and exporters of Varanasi on 09 July 2018 at Hotel City Inn, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Around 40 weavers participated in the meet. Jagram Meena, Assistant Director, Regional office of the Textile Commissioner, Noida assisted by Faizle Rasool Ansari, Investigator, NITRA PSC, Varanasi gave a detailed power point presentation on various components of PowerTex India scheme.
Initiating the discussion Vanga mentioned that Varanasi is an important powerloom centre especially in manufacturing of silk fabrics. He informed about the activities of PDEXCIL and the services it is extending to powerloom weavers for overall growth and market promotion for powerloom products, quoting Prime Minister words ‘Sab ka Saath Sabka Vikaas’ and mentioned that PDEXCIL has organized this meeting with the same objective to discuss the issues of this sector and develop it together.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, Weaver from Varanasi, discussed the issue of credit facility wherein he mentioned that weavers do not get loan easily like farmers get under Mudra scheme from banks. Zubir Adil, Bunker Udyog Foundation, mentioned that Self Help Group should be formed and should be included in NABARD. Other participants also raised certain issues related to powerloom sector. Chairman, Vice Chairman and COA Members of PDEXCIL heard various issues that were taken up in the meeting by the weavers. Few COA Member of PDEXCIL shared their own experiences and benefits availed through various schemes of Govt. of India for powerloom sector and motivated the local weavers to improve their manufacturing facilities and explore more international market.
After the discussion of issues of powerloom weavers, Chairman PDEXCIL offered full support of PDEXCIL for the overall improvement of powerloom industry and weavers engaged in it. He added that certain issues and suggestions came out of this meet will be appropriately taken up with concerned authorities for resolving it.
