Centre Will Fund Proposed Textile Park At Warangal, Says Textile Ministry Official

Additional Secretary of Union Textiles Ministry Pushpa Subramanyam has announced that the centre is willing to fund a proposed textile park at Warangal in Telangana, adding that the ministry is awaiting a formal request in this regard from the Telangana government. She said that funds would be sanctioned as soon as the Telangana government makes a request. Incidentally the Telangana Government had proposed to set up a fibre-to-fabric textile park at Warangal in its bid to give a boost to the textile industry.

The statement was made when she was in Hyderabad recently to participate in a roadshow to promote ‘Textiles India 2017,’ a mega exhibition and convention of the Indian textile industry to be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from June 30 to July 2. The event is expected to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by several union ministers and chief ministers of various states.

She also said that the Centre has prepared a National Textile Policy with an objective of generating US $300 billion (over Rs 20 lakh crore) from textiles exports and generating 35 million jobs by 2025.

She indicated that the document may go to the cabinet for approval in July, adding that textile and garment exports were up by 7% during July 2016 and April 2017 due to schemes announced by the Centre. The Union Textiles Ministry is targeting US $45 billion this year as against the US $40 billion last year, she said.
