The Odisha government's new textile and apparel policy objectives may get fulfilled after some member companies of India’s largest knitwear readymade garments cluster — Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) — assured the Odisha government about setting up a new textile park near Bhubaneswar recently. A delegation of TEA member companies had visited Odisha after the latter’s invitation to assess investment opportunities to set up garment manufacturing units.
The senior officials of these member companies also assured Odisha government about setting up a new textile park near Bhubaneswar, according to TEA sources. The Odisha textile and apparel policy offers incentives of 60% subsidy on building and common facilities, 25% subsidy for new machinery, Rs 1 crore interest-free working capital loan, minimum wage of Rs 220 for eight hours and the state government would even reimburse Rs 1,500 for new factories, for giving employment to new labourers.
The development comes after Odisha textile handloom industries department officials recently made a visit to Tirupur to gather first-hand information about the cluster’s successful operation over the years. The Odisha government had not only sought TEA’s help in drawing up its strategy but also in setting up training and skill development institutes. Recently, the Odisha government had set up an apparel park near Bhubaneshwar and plans to have two more such parks in the state.
