Minimum wage went up by RMB 110 from RMB 2,190 to RMB 2,300 in Shanghai on April 1 2017, with hourly rate rising from RMB 19 to RMB 20. This represents an annual increase of 5% compared to 8.4% in 2016. Monthly minimum wage is applicable to employees under full-time employment. Hourly minimum wage is applicable to part-time employees, that is, those working for less than four hours a day on average for the same employer, with total weekly working hours not exceeding 24 hours.
Shenzhen adjusts minimum wage from June. The Shenzhen City Human Resources and Social Security Bureau announced its minimum wage adjustment for 2017 on 1 April 2017. The change will become effective on 1 June 2017. After the adjustment, the minimum wage will be RMB 2,130 per month for workers under full-time employment, and RMB 19.5 per hour for part-time workers.
