Maksteel Wire Healds Pvt Ltd at Vadodara, a well known weaving accessories maker, has entered into a technical collaboration with Trefileries Du Beuchot to manufacture oil tempered wire.
"We have dedicated oil tempering lines for carbon steel wire and machinery that can produce oil tempered wire in diameters ranging from 0.20mm to 1.0mm with high tensile strength, which can also process high and low carbon steel wire. Maksteel has a contract with Trefileries Du Beuchot, which is well known as Conflandey Industries S.A.S - France (Saarstahl Gruppe) for the supply of raw material - redraw wire," Maksteel Director Arpit Sidhpura said. "Our new product oil tempered wire is used in various sectors like textile, automobile, engineering and chemical, due to its high quality," he said. Oil tempered wire is used in various applications like heddle wire and loom spring in the weaving industry, as card wire for the spinning industry, as brush wire for all industries, as cable wire for the automobile industry, as valve springs for the automobile industry, and as clutch springs for the automobile industry.
The oil tempering process
The oil tempering process involves heating the wire to austinitisation in an electronic controlled furnace, followed by a rapid quench in oil or water based quenchant. The next stage called tempering is the reheating of the wire to an intermediate temperature in order to form tempered martensite.
The final result is a wire with superior ductility, toughness and excellent fatigue, heat and deformation resistance called oil tempered wire. Oil tempered wire which used to be imported from France earlier, is now being manufactured in India by Maksteel using imported plant & technical knowhow.
