Mag Solvics Brand Evokes Confidence In The Industry Today

Mag Solvics Pvt. Ltd. has been serving the textile industry’s need for accurate, consistent textile testing for over 30 years. In its pursuit of world class quality, the company’s innovation and R&D is focussed on robotics and automation. In an interview with Reena Mital, C. Dhandayuthapani, Director, Manikanda Murthy Rangasamy, Managing Director, and M. Gangadharan, Executive Director, Mag Solvics proudly share the victories in developing the best testing solutions for the textile industry.  Tell us about the new products that you have here at India ITME 2022? This time we are in two places – Spinning and Processing halls. Some of the products have already been launched in the market, and installed at mills, but are on display at the event for the first time. So we have the High Volume Tester (HVT) Genius 2 automatic cotton testing, the haircount measurement system. We have already installed 2.2 million spindle monitoring systems, and this time we have come out with the latest version called Optic. In processing segment we have the Universal Strength Tester, Washing Fastness Tester and fabric inspection machines. We have been receiving overwhelming response for our latest HVT cotton testing machine, for the use of robotics and automation. This is a tower type instrument, so occupies less space. The testing and sampling is a much quicker process. Testing cotton fineness till now was a manual process, we have now automated this. The machine has a touchscreen, and inbuilt booster so testing is more efficient. It’s easier to operate too. How did you come up with the idea of using robotics? Usually industry expects such robotic machines from outside India. We took up the challenge, it took some years of hard work. And we showed the world that Indian textile technology industry too can make robotics and fully automatic machines. We believe that we have to compete with competitors but also go one step ahead, in technology, design, innovation. The industry is proud of this machine. Customer feedback has always been a very important input for us to deliver upgraded versions. Principle of testing remains the same. What needs to improve is the consistency of reports that match international standards, ease of operations, speed, automation. Our innovations match all these criteria. I can confidently say that we are parallel runners with our international peers. Which of your products are you really proud of? All of our products are a favourite with us. Our machines have received great testimonials from our customers. In some products, I would say we are far better than European quality too in terms of performance and output. Our mantra is – 30+ years of quality and innovation. Without innovation you cannot succeed. We continuously invest in R&D. As many as 28% of our people are employed in R&D – mechanical, electronics, software, industrial. Our base is instrumentation engineering which requires continuous updation in these areas. Also, we are aware of our role in helping the industry to bring down manufacturing costs. This can happen when we offer higher quality, productivity, speed, automation, and more. Our motto is to give the maximum possible to our customers. We have an important role to play in the growth and success of the textile industry. How easy was it for you to convince the industry to opt for an Indian made product? The challenge still exists. Even though we offer the best in class quality and performance, there is hesitation to pay a higher price for an Indian product. But the mindset is certainly changing. We had participated in an international trial by ICAC, US, where our product was rated top amongst all others. Such events and performances certainly help to further establish our credentials. Sometimes, we offer our customers a 3-6 month trial of our instruments. If they find the workings match with their expectations, they can buy the machine, if not, we offer to take it back. This strategy has worked well, as it helps us prove the performance of our product. The customers have not only always bought the machine, but have also given us good references. Your message to the Indian textile engineering industry? We have easy access to technology today, we have the market at our doorstep. We need to use the technology to develop the right products, products that focus on automation and robotics. Investment in R&D is absolutely a must. Many of us are already OEM suppliers to established brands. That is a further stamp of our quality and performance. How do you envisage your journey from parallel to front runner? This will not be an easy job. We put in our best efforts. We have completed 30 years. Some of the best international companies in this segment are more than 75 years old. We are focussing on brand building too. So our new logo – 30+ years – Quality & Innovation – conveys to the industry our reliability, our technical expertise, our service. Certainly the brand Mag Solvics evokes confidence in the industry today. We want to inform our customers that Mag is coming out with a lot of new products, mainly focussing on automation. There are many surprises in store for the industry.
