In the past 12 months, Amazon has registered total app downloads of 3.2 crore, while Flipkart had 2.7 crore, shows data from App Annie, an app metrics tracking website.
Amazon has led Flipkart in terms of app downloads throughout the year, but Flipkart is holding on to its leading position in the e-commerce battle, according to data from various tracking platforms.
While Amazon led Flipkart in PC visits and mobile web visits, Flipkart, together with subsidiaries Myntra and Jabong, still attracts 25% more traffic than Amazon, according to website tracking firm comScore. Flipkart also continues to lead in cumulative app downloads. In the past 12 months, Amazon has registered total app downloads of 3.2 crore, while Flipkart had 2.7 crore, shows data from App Annie, an app metrics tracking website. While the companies don't reveal the cumulative app installed base, it is estimated that Flipkart has around 8 crore downloads while Amazon's is a little less than 6 crore. In January this year, Flipkart had led Amazon marginally in desktop visits and had double the overall app installed base. This means Amazon has narrowed the gap significantly over the year. Amazon's desktop and mobile website visits are more than 50% higher than Flipkart's (excluding Myntra and Jabong), as per website tracking firm SimilarWeb. But e-commerce players get less than 25% of their overall traffic from websites. Over 75% comes from mobile apps. In October, the latest month for which data is available, Amazon registered 27 crore website visitors while Flipkart had 16 crore visitors. Both Dussehra and Diwali fell during this month.
In terms of the number of daily active users on the mobile app in October, Flipkart led Amazon by 7.7%, owing to its large cumulative download base, says SimilarWeb. On the app, Flipkart users spent a minute more than Amazon's users (7.5 minutes) on an average. During October last year, Flipkart had led Amazon by 2 minutes.
However, on the desktop, an average user spent close to 10 mins on Amazon, compared to 6 mins on Flipkart in October.
Paytm and Snapdeal are about a third of Flipkart and Amazon in terms of traffic and downloads. After months of stagnant traffic, Snapdeal seems to have seen an increase during the festive month of October owing to its high voltage multi-media "Unbox Zindagi" campaign. Snapdeal almost tripled its app downloads to 32 lakh in October; the downloads were around 10-12 lakh a month prior to October. Paytm was also averaging 12 lakh downloads a month, but this rose to 30 lakh in October.
